Questions and Answers
Q: I didn't get my code/ My code doesn't work. What should I do?
Codes are sent immediately. If you do not receive your code, or if your registration code does not work send an email to: help@skimware.com. Include your order number, the name you ordered the code under, the date of your purchase and your user name with your inquiry. If your code does not work, include the exact text of the error message generated when you enter your code with your correspondence.
The most common reason for not receiving a code is entering an invalid email address on the registration form. Our registration system is automated, and replies to the email address entered. If the address is invalid (incorrectly typed or missing a suffix such as .com), the system cannot send your code.
Another reason for not receiving your code is that your order was terminated prematurely and did not process. If you do not receive a code within 1-3 business days, please contact us by email so we can resolve the problem.
A: MakeMyScriptures is a free utility which converts plain text files to indexed MarkMyScriptures format. MakeMyScriptures creates a DOC file and an index file from the text file. For more information, please see our MakeMyScriptures page. (Click here to go back to top of page)
A: MMSWeb is a utility for downloading Internet material to your Palm® for use with MarkMyScriptures. Currently, only material from www.lds.org is available with this utility. Users who register both MMSWeb and MarkMyScriptures can download selected materials from lds.org to their Palm® quickly and easily; file conversion is not required. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: I have a new CE device; can I transfer my Palm registration?
No; you must register the CE version separately. However, you can transfer your Palm registration to a new user of your choice. MarkMyScriptures makes a great gift! Just send us the name, hotsync id, and email address of the new recipient and we will send them their code.
Q: When I open MarkMyScriptures I only see the Instructions-- how do I get the scripture files?
A: You must load either the MMS KJV Bible or MMS LDS Standard Works indexed text file along with the MarkMyScriptures program file to have the scriptures available on your Palm®. If you do not load an indexed text file, MarkMyScriptures will function as a document reader-- but it will not have book-chapter-verse navigation. If you have other DOC files loaded, you will be able to read, annotate, underline, etc. in them. MMSWeb documents would be available to registered users. However, if you want to read the scriptures with book-chapter-verse navigation, you must load an indexed text file. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Where is the Prefs menu? How do I access all the menu options?
A: To access the Navigate, Edit, Docs and Prefs menus, tap the top of your screen near the scripture reference area. Palm users can also use the Palm menu button to bring up these menus.
Q: What is an indexed text file?
A: An indexed text file is a file that has two parts: the text, and the navigation index used by MarkMyScriptures. Without both files, MarkMyScriptures cannot navigate by book-chapter-verse selection. Index files do not refer to chapter headings, or to the index in the back of document. Use the pre-indexed scripture files from the Downloads page with MarkMyScriptures, or create your own navigation indexes with the MakeMyScriptures utility. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Which file format should I download (.exe, .zip, and .sit)?
A: .Exe files are the easiest files to download to your PC and your handheld -- just double click the downloaded file folder for automatic installation. Use these files unless your computer will not let you download it, or unless you have a Macintosh computer. Use .zip files if you have a PC but cannot download the .exe files. You must have a utility like Winzip to unzip the files once they are downloaded. Then move the unzipped files to your Install directory. The .sit files are for Macintosh users. You must have a Mac unstuffer to open these files. Then move the files to your install directory. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Are other version of the Bible available in MarkMyScriptures format?
A: No. If you have a .txt file of another version of the Bible, you can convert it to MarkMyScriptures format using the MakeMyScripture utility. (See the MakeMyScriptures page for more information on .txt files and how to use this utility.) Due to copyright laws, SkimWare cannot provide other versions of the Bible without entering into a licensing agreement with the copyright holder. It is our policy to provide only works of public domain. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Why aren't my book/chapter/verse navigation buttons showing up?
A: Make sure you have loaded the MarkMyScriptures program file AND the index file for each document. If necessary, re-load the index files for each of the scripture files. If you used pkunzip, these files may have been over written by the text files. Use WinZip to unzip the MarkMyScriptures program file, and re-install it to your Palm®. If your document is not indexed, the Book, Chapter and Verse buttons will not show up. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Where are the complete instructions for using MarkMyScriptures?
A: All the instructions for using MarkMyScriptures, including how to underline, insert notes, create topics and indexes, and copy and paste to the clipboard are available here at our website, by going to the MarkMyScriptures page and clicking the "Readme Information" link. If you have a question that is not answered in the Instruction file, email us at: help@skimware.com. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: What else can I read with MarkMyScriptures? Where do I find these files?
A: Registered users of MarkMyScriptures and MMSWeb can read any downloaded MMSWeb file. You can also read any DOC file in .prc format. MMSWeb files are indexed; other documents you download from the internet will not be. A good site for free DOC files is www.memoware.com, which offers several categories of books for download. If you download a DOC file and it does not show up in your "Other Docs" list, it is not in the proper format for MarkMyScriptures. Files in other formats, such as iSilo files, or scripture files from other companies formatted for different readers, cannot be read in MarkMyScriptures. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Sometime I have trouble getting the underlining to work.
A: When underlining text, use your stylus to draw a line through the text you want to underline. When highlighting a block of text, make sure your stylus stops directly at the end of a word. Try to make a firm and clear diagonal bar through the text you wish to underline. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q:
How do I get the latest MMSWeb files?
A: As new files are added to MMSWeb they are posted to our website. To see a complete list of files, click the "Refresh" button on the MMSWeb screen. Newly posted files will be added to your file list. They can then be selected for download. (Click here to go back to top of page)

(Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: I deleted one of my scripture files, and now all my files are gone.
A: If you use the Palm® delete utility it will search out all files with similar suffixes and delete them. So if you delete one DOC file, the utility will delete all DOC files. Only use the MarkMyScriptures "Delete File" option to delete your files! Remember, deleting a file will make you lose all marks and notes associated with that file. Think twice before deleting!
To restore files simply re-hot sync the text and index files to your Palm®. (Click here to go back to top of page)
Q: Can I use MarkMyScriptures on the Hand on the Hand Spring Visor? How about Windows CE?
