Installing MarkMyScriptures to your Handheld Device

[.EXE Files]        [.SIT Files]

Installing .EXE Files:       

  • Click the .EXE file you want to download

  • Choose the "Save to Disk" option in the first dialog box, and click "OK."

  • Choose a folder to save the download to-- for example C:/Downloads-- and click "Save".  Do not save these files to your desktop or they will not install properly.

    • To change the destination of your download, click the yellow folder with the up arrow on it-- this folder is at the top of the "Save As" dialog box.  Continue clicking this folder until you see "My Computer" in the "Save in" box, and then click the drive where you want to store the file to, and then click the folder you want to store it in.

  • A dialog box will appear showing how much time it will take for the download to be completed. 

  • When the download is complete, click on the "My Computer" icon on your PC desktop.  Click the drive and the file folder where the download is stored.  For example, click on the "C" drive, and then click on the "Downloads" folder.

  • You will see the .exe file name you just downloaded either at the bottom of your file list (has not been sorted yet) or in its alphabetical position in your file list (has been sorted).  DOUBLE CLICK EACH .EXE FOLDER YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED.

  • A dialog box will pop up asking what user name to install the file to.  Click your user name, then click "OK".  The file will be installed when you hotsync.  Do this for each file.

  • After hotsyncing the files will be on your device.  The MarkMyScriptures program file icon will appear in the Start menu for CE devices, and on the All or Unfiled program screen for Palm devices.  If the scripture files do not appear when you open MarkMyScriptures, check to see if you have downloaded and installed a scripture file. If you have installed it, click the Refresh button at the bottom of the documents page in MarkMyScriptures to bring up the files.

  • For CE Users ONLY:  the MarkMyScriptures for Windows CE .EXE file contains both the program file and the scriptures.  After double clicking the .exe file, select the files you wish to install.  To UNINSTALL double click the .EXE file and choose the Uninstall Option.   See the above instructions for downloading and opening .exe files.

  • For MMSWeb ONLY:  This program installs to your main computer (PC), not your handheld device.  You will not hotsync it.  After double clicking the file you will go through an Install Wizard and an MMSWeb icon will be placed on your desktop.  Double click the icon to see the files available.  You may need to click Refresh List to bring up the files, and you will use the Scripture Downloads tab to download scripture files.  See the above instructions for downloading and opening .exe files.

  • For MakeMyScriptures ONLY:   This program installs to your main computer (PC), not your handheld device.  You will not hotsync it.  After double clicking the file you will go through an Install Wizard and a MakeMyScriptures  icon will be placed on your desktop.  Double click the icon to enter the program and begin formatting your own plain text files for use with MarkMyScriptures.   See the above instructions for downloading and opening .exe files.

Installing .SIT files:
   
Macintosh users must download this file format.  Only the Palm program files and scripture files are available in this format.  To use MMSWeb or MakeMyScriptures you need a utility such as PC Anywhere which will allow your Macintosh to emulate a PC.

  • Click the .SIT file you want to download.

  • Choose the "Save to Disk" option in the first dialog box, and click "OK."

  • Choose a folder to save the download to-- for example C:/Downloads-- and click "Save".  Do not save these files to your desktop or they will not install properly.

    • Choose a different destination than the default folder by clicking the yellow folder with the up arrow on it-- this folder is at the top of the "Save As" dialog box.  Continue clicking this folder until you see "My Computer" in the "Save in" box, and then click the drive where you want to store the file to, and then click the folder you want to store it in.

  • A dialog box will appear showing how much time it will take for the download to be completed.  The program file is a small download and should take between one and five minutes.  

  • When the download is complete, click on the "My Computer" icon on your Mac desktop.  Click the drive and the file folder where the download is stored.  For example, click on the "C" drive, and then click on the "Downloads" folder.

  • You will see a stuffed file folder named mms.sit, kjvbible.sit, or lds.sit.  Right click this folder and choose an unstuffing option.

  • After the file has been unstuffed, double click EACH file-- a dialog box will come up; select your user name for each file.  There are multiple files for each file name-- install them all.  These files are now ready to be hotsynced.

  • After hotsyncing the files will be on your device.  The MarkMyScriptures program file icon will appear on the All or Unfiled program screen.  If the scripture files do not appear when you open MarkMyScriptures, check to see if you have downloaded and installed a scripture file. If you have installed it, click the Refresh button at the bottom of the documents page in MarkMyScriptures to bring up the files.
